Deputy Commerce Minister Suchart Chomklin has led a delegation to Nakhon Phanom province to promote the use of free trade agreements (FTAs) in expanding exports of soft power products, including processed rice and traditional handwoven textiles. The visit, held ahead of the mobile Cabinet meeting on April 29, included inspections of local producers in That Phanom and Na Kae districts.
The delegation visited Khun Mae Rice Food and Beverage Co., Ltd., an exporter of organic rice to Hong Kong and Singapore that is now exploring entry into the European market. Suchart noted that Thailand has signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and is completing domestic procedures for its enforcement. Negotiations with the European Union are also underway and expected to conclude this year, potentially opening access to 27 additional markets.
In Na Kae district, officials visited the Ban Nong Sang Community Enterprise, which produces handwoven textiles dyed with natural pigments derived from local herbs and trees. Sold under the Kaloeng Craft brand, the fabrics feature traditional patterns and adhere to environmentally friendly production methods aligned with the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) model.
Suchart instructed provincial commerce officers to assist these enterprises in expanding their reach into broader markets, both online and offline. He also announced plans for promotional campaigns to increase visibility for high-quality cultural products that combine traditional craftsmanship with sustainable practices.
The Ministry of Commerce continues to support the government’s soft power strategy by helping local entrepreneurs build competitiveness through innovation and trade readiness.
