The fourth annual Spotlight Koh Tao 2025 festival has officially opened, aiming to establish the island as a global model for sustainable tourism through a host of environmental, community, and wellness activities.
The Spotlight Koh Tao 2025 sustainable tourism festival has kicked off at Ta-O Coconut Garden on Sairee Beach. The three-day event, running until June 29th, is held under the theme “Harmony with Nature – A Sustainable Future” and aligns with Thailand’s BCG Economy model.
Surat Thani Governor Theerut Supawiboonphol presided over the opening ceremony. He was joined by President of the Koh Tao Tourism Association Ramluek Atsawachin, and other related officials.
Mrs. Ramluek stated that the event is a collaborative effort by all local sectors, including government agencies, private businesses, conservationists, and residents, to establish Koh Tao as a global model for sustainable island tourism. Before the official opening, the festival kicked off with a “Trash to Art Parade” featuring art from recycled materials, a Mini Dive Expo, and networking sessions.
The festival features a wide range of activities on land and at sea. Environmental initiatives include coral reef restoration, underwater statue maintenance, beach and underwater clean-ups, and building new fish houses. Community-focused events include workshops on making natural tie-dye fabrics and jewelry from sea debris, alongside an exhibition on the island’s unique history and culture. A range of wellness activities, such as yoga, traditional Thai massage, and ice bath therapy, are also available for visitors.
Organizers expect over 3,000 people to attend each day of the festival. This is projected to generate an estimated 30 to 40 million Thai baht in revenue for the local community.
